Quantum information is a developing multi-disciplinary field, with many exciting links to white noise theory. This connection is explored and presented in this work, which effectively bridges the gap between quantum information theory and complex systems. Arising from the Meijo Winter School and International Conference, the lecture notes and research papers published in this timely volume will have a significant impact on the future development of the theories of quantum information and complexity. This book will be of interest to mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists as well as electrical engineers working in this field. Contents:Quantum Information, Quantum Communication and Innovation (L Accardi)On the Quantum Liouville Space (I Antoniou & Z Suchanecki)L1-Theory for the Kolmogorov Operators of Stochstic Generalized Burgers Equations (M Röckner & Z Sobol)Homogenization of Infinite Dimensional Diffusion Processes with Periodic Drift Coefficients (S Albeverio et al.)Some Topics on White Noise Analysis (T Hida & Si Si)On a Design of Transition Probabilities and Estimates of Cover Times (S Ikeda et al.)Recent Progress on the White Noise Approach to the Lévy Laplacian (H-H Kuo)An Infinite Dimensional Stochastic Process and the Lévy Laplacian Acting on WND-Valued Functions (K Nishi & K Saitô)Note on Poisson Noise (Si Si)Note on Linear Process (Win Win Htay)and other papers Readership: Researchers in probability and statistics and quantum information. The subject of Quantum Cosmology is concerned with providing a quantum mechanical description of the universe as a whole and, within that description, to constructing a theory of the universe's initial condition whose predictions can be compared with observation. The recent progress in this area has profound implications for physics at all scales. The lectures at this School describe these theories and their implications. They cover basic quantum mechanics of cosmology, proposals for theories of initial conditions, and their application to the prediction of the large scale features of our universe. A special emphasis of the School is the implication of topological fluctuations of spacetime (wormholes, baby universes) for the observed coupling constants of the low energy interactions of elementary particles and as a potential explanation for the vanishing of the cosmological constant. Contents: Hamiltonian Formulation of General Relativity (C Teitelboim)The Quantum Mechanics of Cosmology (J B Hartle)Introductory Lectures on Quantum Cosmology (J J Halliwell)Wormholes and Non-Simply Connected Manifolds (S W Hawking)Baby Universes (A Strominger)Critique of Colemans Theory of the Vanishing Cosmological Constant (L Susskind) Readership: High energy physicists and cosmologists. Vasopressin is a hormone which has an increasingly important profile. Not only does it play a physiologically significant role in renal water regulation but it also has other renal actions and plays a role in overall cardiovascular control. Even more interesting is the recent growing interest in its potential effects on the brain, notably its influence on specific behaviours. This monograph about the polypeptide vasopressin covers all aspects relating to the production, control of release, and actions of this molecule within the body, including its roles as a hormone and as a central neurotransmitter. A consideration of the evolution of the molecule across the species and a brief historical perspective are also included. Clinical conditions associated with hypo- and hyper-production states are considered together with aspects of treatment, in addition to other clinical correlates./a

The aim of this book is to give graduate students an overview of quantum gravity but it also covers related topics from astrophysics. Some well-written contributions can serve as an introduction into basic conceptual concepts like time in quantum gravity or the emergence of a classical world from quantum cosmology. This makes the volume attractive to philosophers of science, too. Other topics are black holes, gravitational waves and non-commutative extensions of physical theories.

All investments carry with them some degree of risk. In the financial world, individuals, professional money managers, financial institutions, and many others encounter and must deal with risk. Risk management is a process of determining what risks exist in an investment and then handling those risks in the best-suited way. This is important because it can reduce or augment risk depending on the goals of investors and portfolio managers. The main purpose of Investment Risk Management is to provide an overview of developments in risk management and a synthesis of research involving these developments. The book examines ways to alter exposures through measuring and managing those exposures and provides an understanding of the latest strategies and trends within risk management. The scope of the coverage is broad and encompasses the most important aspects of investment risk management. Its 30 chapters are organized into six sections: (1) foundations of risk management, (2) types of risk, (3) quantitative assessment of risk, (4) risk and risk classes, (5) hedging risk and (6) going forward. The book should be of particular interest to sophisticated practitioners, investors, academics, and graduate finance students. Investment Risk Management provides a fresh look at this intriguing but complex subject.
