Alan Ayckbourn's play is about a very ordinary teenager called Lucy. With her father glued to the cowboys on the telly, her mother preoccupied with neighbourly gossip and her brother enclosed in his ear-phones, no one wants to know about her place in the school swimming team. So Lucy revives her childhood fantasy friend, Zara, setting a place for her at the very ordinary tea table. This time Zara materializes, bringing with her an idealized father and brother, and showing Lucy how to make her real family vanish. The moral of this cautionary tale is carefully spelt out - that when you get what you want it's not what you wanted - as Lucy's dream family turns out to be a nightmare. The play is supposedly for children of seven upwards, but there's a message here for parents, too, about listening to kids.

Every child has a fear or a special need. The Invisible Friends series was written with the sole purpose of reaching just one child that feels he or she is all alone or that nobody understands. The Logan’s Poems section was written for Barbara’s youngest grandson, who has special medical needs. This poetry section is meant to make children think, laugh, and remember. This book is also written to help both children and parents laugh, and it may possibly make them think and shake their heads. Invisible Friends is dedicated to Victor’s mother and Barbara’s friend, Hazel Furness. Logan, Barbara’s youngest grandson, suffers from a mixture of ADHD, Asperger Syndrome, and light autism. The poems were written to help Logan learn to laugh and be proud of himself. This, in turn, makes life easier on his brothers and sisters. Barbara Horne was blessed with two daughters, Tammy and Connie, twin sons, James and John, and seven grandchildren. Writing poetry is her deep passion. As a cancer survivor, she knows the power of children’s laughter. Victor Furness has a son, Robert, who has Aspergers syndrome. Being mentally challenged, Robert was bullied in school. This inspired Victor to write children’s stories full of hope and understanding.

Although Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Benjamin Robert Haydon never met, their lively and topical conversation, initiated in 1842, continued unabated until 1845, about a year before the painter's suicide. It was a somewhat lopsided correspondence in which ninetyâe"four letters written by Haydon, most of which have not been published before, received fewer replies from Miss Barrett, twentyâe"eight of which are included in this book. Judging from the contents of the letters, the epistolary friendship was truly meaningful to both. To Miss Barrett, Haydon was âeoemy dear kind friendâe ; he was far more effusive, addressing her as âeoeyou Ingenious little darling invisibleâe and âeoemy dearest dream & invisible intellectuality.âe In spite of Haydon's frequent pleas for a meeting, Miss Barrett never agreed to receive him. However, as the correspondence progressed, they exchanged more and more confidences and each recognized the other as a responsive and sympathetic listener. With complete candor Haydon admitted at one point that egotism was the basis of his pleasure in the correspondence; âeoeI never ask what you are doing,âe he wrote, âeoebut take it for granted what! am doing must be delightful to you.âe Evincing warmth and poignancy, the letters range over a variety of colorful subjects covering art, literature, current events, and gossip. The Elgin Marbles and Queen Victoria are discussed, and the correspondents air opposing views on mesmerism and Napoleon versus Wellington. After a thoughtful introduction which provides background information on Miss Barrett and Haydon, Willard Pope presents the lettersâe"carefully annotated with identifying information on people, places, and current eventsâe"in chronological order.

Our Invisible Friend is a series of ten delightful short stories. Tommy is Jyllian and Landon’s friend who comes to play with them; he often brings some items and leaves others, and sometimes he takes things with him when he leaves. Mom and Dad ask the kids about the items that mysteriously appear and disappear; the kids explain that Tommy did it. Mom and Dad soon learn to accept Tommy as a member of the family. A child’s imagination is endless. It’s the driving force behind creativity. It should be encouraged in every direction. Our Invisible Friend teaches young and old alike to keep their minds open and dare to imagine; go ahead, take a trip down that rabbit hole. As Dr. Seuss put it, “Think left and think right, think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try.”

How is it that corporations are able to behave irresponsibly, criminally, and undemocratically? Wealth by Stealth is a scathing introduction to the operations of the modern corporation, written by a corporate lawyer. Many writers point to the growth of undemocratic corporate power. Glasbeek takes these observations further and outlines clearly how corporations become so powerful. He also shows how they are able to act without regard to the behaviour and laws governing citizens and other groups. Glasbeek is known by generations of students for his brilliant, funny lectures at Osgoode Hall Law School. With Wealth by Stealth his informative critique of corporate behaviour becomes available and accessible to all. How is it "The corporation makes them do it"?

Over the past thirty years, and particularly within the last ten years, researchers in the areas of social psychology, cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, and neuroscience have been examining fascinating questions regarding the nature of imagination and mental simulation – the imagination and generation of alternative realities. Some of these researchers have focused on the specific processes that occur in the brain when an individual is mentally simulating an action or forming a mental image, whereas others have focused on the consequences of mental simulation processes for affect, cognition, motivation, and behavior. This Handbook provides a novel and stimulating integration of work on imagination and mental simulation from a variety of perspectives. It is the first broad-based volume to integrate specific sub-areas such as mental imagery, imagination, thought flow, narrative transportation, fantasizing, and counterfactual thinking, which have, until now, been treated by researchers as disparate and orthogonal lines of inquiry. As such, the volume enlightens psychologists to the notion that a wide-range of mental simulation phenomena may actually share a commonality of underlying processes.

The Evolution of Spirits What is the Reason for Being Here, in This Creation? By Bahram Esmailzadeh, M.Sc. What is the reason for being here? Unlock the answer in The Evolution of Spirits. In this intriguing follow-up to his first book,Understanding the Creation, Esmailzadeh introduces a general theory for the creation, evolution and destiny of all spirits. The Evolution of Spirits directly deals with variety of spiritual phenomena and yet it is not related to any of the religions or philosophies. It reveals the authors curiosity, his extensive research and persistent personal contemplations on various spiritual phenomena. This book raises the most important question: What is the reason for being here? Esmailzadeh sheds light on this very matter. In this comprehensive blueprint he demonstrates how everything began, the objectives that must be met and how spirits may eventually accomplish their ultimate and common task. He begins by explaining the creation of the physical and the spiritual worlds and the specific laws that govern them. He follows with a discussion on how spirits evolve, as they go through their evolutionary path. He tells what will eventually become of all spirits, the physical world and the spiritual world. By applying the proposed theory, Esmailzadeh also provides consistent explanations for a variety of spiritual phenomena such as overlapping past lives, power of thought, spiritual healing, states of dreaming, trance and coma, sleep paralysis, spiritual guides, wandering and escorting spirits, evil eye and witchcraft, prophesying and fortune telling, sexuality, animal languages, psychopaths, seizures, cravings, multiple personalities, possessions and exorcism, ghosts and apparitions, astrology, as well as inspiration, imagination, intelligence, instincts, curiosity, memory, conscience and of course the source of the ever-growing number of human spirits. Thought-provoking and thoroughly engaging, The Evolution of Spirits clarifies issues that have challenged mans intelligence since the beginning of time.
