Don't You Have Time to Think? collects the witty, eccentric and moving letters letters of Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard P. Feynman. Richard Feynman was no ordinary genius. Brilliant, free-spirited and irreverent, he upset those in authority, gave captivating lectures, wrote equations on napkins in strip joints and touched countless lives everywhere. He also wrote hundreds of letters to friends, family, critics, colleagues and devoted fans around the world. Now these letters have been brought together for the first time. From down-to-earth advice to eager students to discussions of time travel and the atom bomb, and from blunt rebuttals to journalists to poignant exchanges with his first wife as she lay dying, they will introduce you to a unique person whose wisdom and lust for life inspired all those who came into his orbit. Witty, deadpan, warm ... some are unbearably poignant' Guardian 'Plain-speaking ... touching' Daily Telegraph 'He sparked excitement not just about science but also about the power of creativity, passion, curiosity' The New York Times Richard P. Feynman (1918-1988) was one of this century's most brilliant theoretical physicists and original thinkers. Good news! Fannie’s back in town—and the town is among the leading characters in her new novel. Along with Neighbor Dorothy, the lady with the smile in her voice, whose daily radio broadcasts keep us delightfully informed on all the local news, we also meet Bobby, her ten-year-old son, destined to live a thousand lives, most of them in his imagination; Norma and Macky Warren and their ninety-eight-year-old Aunt Elner; the oddly sexy and charismatic Hamm Sparks, who starts off in life as a tractor salesman and ends up selling himself to the whole state and almost the entire country; and the two women who love him as differently as night and day. Then there is Tot Whooten, the beautician whose luck is as bad as her hairdressing skills; Beatrice Woods, the Little Blind Songbird; Cecil Figgs, the Funeral King; and the fabulous Minnie Oatman, lead vocalist of the Oatman Family Gospel Singers. The time is 1946 until the present. The town is Elmwood Springs, Missouri, right in the middle of the country, in the midst of the mostly joyous transition from war to peace, aiming toward a dizzyingly bright future. Once again, Fannie Flagg gives us a story of richly human characters, the saving graces of the once-maligned middle classes and small-town life, and the daily contest between laughter and tears. Fannie truly writes from the heartland, and her storytelling is, to quote Time, "utterly irresistible."

She keeps a firm grip on her emotions during times like this but she couldnt help a tear streaming down her face as she pulls her daughters black satin dress out of the closet. She retrieves Ebonys black two inch heel shoes from under the bed. They are the appropriate kind. She places the shoes in front of the chair. I know this is a trying time for you. Mildred says as she sits at the foot of the bed. I just want you to know that your father and I are here for you; no matter what. Ebony begins to tear. Mildred moves closer to her daughter and comforts her. Its ok, baby. Go ahead, let it out. She says as Ebony sobs even harder. I wish I could take all your pain away. Why was the home of a young couple with a seven-year-old boy invaded by the police, the house searched without a warrant, and the mother taken away in handcuffs with no explanation? How did Emmaline Raleigh, head of Raleigh Corp. and self-styled arbiter of class, end up forced to serve in a homeless shelter as partial repayment for the defamation of character and false arrest of her own unacknowledged daughter-in-law? Why was an ancient temple piece, the opposite of one being studied in the museum and a precious gift from her deceased husband, stolen from the Raleigh home? How did an intelligent and curious little boy happen to notice something, which he reported to a most unusual butler, that would ultimately free his mother? Who would have expected that the unusual combination of a young mother, her seven-year-old son, her retired and ill high-school teacher father, his butler turned companion, and the director of antiquities of the city museum would be instrumental in setting up an education program for homeless children as well as being the cause of the arrest of an international thief? Will these unusual occurrences lead to a mutually satisfactory end?
