It's also one of the leastunderstood. Today we are witnessing the unprecedented reform andreshaping of this market, and along with these events, the entirelife cycle of a derivatives transaction has been affected.Accordingly, nearly all market participants in the modern economyneed to view the handling of risk by derivatives in a verydifferent way. Many aspects of financial services reform are based on a beliefthat derivatives caused the Great Recession of 2008. While thedifficulties we now face cannot be blamed solely on derivatives, the need to understand this market, and the financial products thattrade within it, has never been greater. The Post-Reform Guideto Derivatives and Futures provides straightforwarddescriptions of these important investment products, the market inwhich they trade, and the law that now, after July 16, 2011,governs their use in America and creates challenges for investorsthroughout the world. English summary: The regulation of (over-the-counter) derivatives has been a corner stone in the post financial crisis attempt to build a more resilient financial system. However, EU primary law, namely the free movement of capital and the freedom to provide services, imposes certain limits on these regulatory efforts. This contribution examines if certain regulatory models are compatible with EU primary law.

Published 35 years after Palgrave Macmillan’s landmark International Political Economy (IPE) series was first founded, this Handbook captures the state of the art of contemporary IPE. It draws on the series’ history of focussing on the oft-neglected study of the global South. Providing interdisciplinary perspectives from scholars hailing from the global North and South, the Handbook illustrates the theoretical innovations and empirical richness necessary to explain today’s ever-changing world. This is a world in which the global South and North are not only being transformed by the end of bipolarity and the rise of the BRICS, but also by diverse global crises and growing cross-border challenges. It is a world where human development, governance and security are becoming ever more elusive, where, profoundly altered by the rise of new technologies, the structure of relations between nations itself is changing, becoming increasingly interconnected, both digitally and physically. Understanding these issues is of critical importance to better understand and anticipate current and future global transformations. This Handbook is the ideal primer for all scholars, practitioners and policy makers looking to do so.

This landmark work illustrates the progress that has been made in financial markets and assesses innovations that provide solutions to dilemmas and increase efficiency. These articles break down the complex web of relationships between the financial intermediary, the managers of corporations, shareholders, creditors, analysts and regulators. If complete information was disseminated to all participants, and all participants were ethical and competent, there would be less need for research on financial markets. Given the numerous conflicts of interest, the research included in these volumes attacks existing problems in financial markets in search of a solution. The research also identifies problems that have gone unnoticed. Research on financial markets identifies more problems in financial markets than it solves. Nevertheless, the research findings can help one use financial markets to one's advantage, rather than be used by them. This new edition to the SAGE Library in Business and Management discloses relevant research about the environment and behaviour within each of several financial markets so that participants can make informed decisions. It also hints at some of the unresolved issues in financial markets that are likely to receive more attention in future financial research.
